F430 without F1?
Discussion
I dont think a manual will ever be hard to sell. There are alot of old school people that will sought out a manual Ferrari. Its the MMI (man machine interface) thing along with the traditional "click clack" of the gate. But we dinosaurs will all be dying of over the next 30 years
It seems over the last 5 years Ferrari have always had a plan to phase out the manual boxes and now they have done it.
Its my guess that if some one developed a manual conversion for the all new 458, it would sell well.

I honestly thought I would never say this, however, the Gearbox in our Ferrari California is absolutely gobsmackingly good. I do not think I would wish for a manual again!
Until now, I thought that a manual was the better choice due to the "feeling" of being at one with the car - setting up the revs/clutch/gearchange and planning the whole thing was one of those challenges that when perfected made the whole driving experience perfect.
Whilst their will undoubtedly be many protractors about the California, the engine / gearbox combo is spot on. Smooth, fast and tactile - I think the real fun is now ensuring that you set up the car / balance/ throttle / brake point &, at the touch or two of the paddle - choose the perfect gear for the situation.
I also regularly drive our fleet Jaguar XKR which has a "proper" ZF automatic, this is also probably the best auto box I have used. So quick with no slack, just an immediate change with a lovely pop and crackle on the downchange.
If the F458 'box is as good as the California 'box then I cannot imagine a need for a manual again! The F430 F1 box is unfortunately now feeling out of it's depth. With careful throttle use and a bit of luck, it does the job, particularly at higher revs. Most of the time though it is just slow, clunky and dated!

I searched high & low to find a good spec f430 manual & I love it..
I'm not a fan of the F1/e-gear boxes as I found them too annoying at slow speed, however these new gen DSG boxes are clearly the future..
With regards to selling on a Manual f430 there is no difference at all, if priced accordingly it will sell as fast as any F1.. Remember in the early cars it was a 7k option & now the price difference is about 10k, which seems fair to me..
ie. 2005/6 f430F1 Rosso/crema low miles will sell for 75-80k
2005/6 f430M Rosso/crema low miles will sell for 65-70k

F1 box all day long! when your looking for the the edge in performance and all round usability with all the differant settings the F1 box ticks all the boxes! Test drove the California yesterday and was impressed with the gearbox except for one thing! compared to the F430 it feels tame and quite and almost dare I say it like a german car! the salesman assures me the 458 will be a totally differant animal!

Hi All
It seems MOST F430's forsale have F1 gearbox rather than Manual. Does this make manual cars harder to sell, does everyone want F1? As a potential buyer in the future I don't mind a manual, as long as its priced accordingly, but would it then be harder to sell later?
Yes now most Ferrari's are F1 sadly. Last time I was at Ferrari I was chatting to the dealer who said when the 355 was launched approx 10% of the cars were F1. When the 430 was launched approx 10% of the cars are manual! It seems MOST F430's forsale have F1 gearbox rather than Manual. Does this make manual cars harder to sell, does everyone want F1? I bought my 430 spider in December and originally was looking for a manual, but in the end chose F1. In my opinion a manual shouldn't be that much harder to sell on because there is still a lot of people out there who don't like the paddles. My advice is to buy what you want. If it's a less popular colour, or manual rather that F1 it doesn't really matter because as long as the price reflects the spec then the car will sell.
Thanks for all the comments.
Regarding:
ie. 2005/6 f430F1 Rosso/crema low miles will sell for 75-80k
2005/6 f430M Rosso/crema low miles will sell for 65-70k
I cannot find anything in those price ranges, everything £5k or more over, does this mean that is what I should be offering dealers (£5k off sticker)? I am looking at approved 05/06 cars with the new 2 year included warranty..

I would definately be making offers of 5k or more off the price. I'm a terrible negotiator when I want something but I still got 4k off the price of my 430 in November, along with 6250 service, MOT and a new set of tyres, although I didn't really need to negotiate for the service, MOT and tyres that was just done anyway. If none of that needed done there may have been even more movement in the price. Chance your arm worst that can happen is thay say no and you need to go in a bit higher.

Thanks, im also a terrible negotiator, good to know a rough guide although I know it will vary on different cars.
Bought my V8 Vantage just before the recession hit and the dealer didnt give me a penny off, when I made an offer £3k lower he let me walk... I went back in a week later and bought the car for the price on the winscreen.... I am going to hold my nerve this time and try to get me a deal

just been trawling the classifieds and found an 06/2006 manual coupe rosso/crema manual with 6.5k miles @ 79,990, i'm sure there's room for negotiation so pricing above is bang onRegarding:

The reason I originally asked about F1 is this one interests me:

But I know they have had it a while, so concerning at the lowest priced approved F430 why its not selling.
Cheers

I would only ever buy a manual 430, I have a 458 on order and I am looking forward to it. I would be looking forward to it much more if it was available with a manual.
I've got a 550 and a 355 as well. The 430 manaual box is spot on, much nicer to use than either car. Although the 550 is prett nice too. I love the open gate box on the Ferraris. These days it really is getting harder and narder to enjoy our cars on the road. The lst thing I want is to take part of the experience away. I think F1 is great for track driving, particularly if you are against the clock. However, when does that ever happen? We are talking about road cars here.
I personally think it is a real shame that F1/DSG/DCT has taken over. I think the manual cars will become more sought after in years to come. I'd like to buy a manaual 599 if I didn't mind losing my shirt, but I would - even though it will the last V12 and definitely the last V12 available with a manual.
Manuals are less popular though, but that is already priced in usually when you buy so % wise you will be in for the same sort of depreciation. There are still people who want manaual, so if the delaer gives you a hard time when you come to sell (they always do) - sell privately or try someone else.
I salute you for sticking to manual
