No rear footrests = MOT Failure?
Discussion
Seems a bit harsh but presumably its part of the MOT. Guy at work has a DT125 and is a learner so is highly unlikely to be carrying a passenger. Surely a full licence holder would refuse to be a passenger with no pegs?Presumably single seaters are exempt ,but how about a sportsbike with a removable plastic seat hump?
The MOT tester is correct: http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m1s06000201.htm

nobody looks at links here...Pillion foot rests are not required on motor bicycles that only have a single seat. In addition some motor bicycles used on or after 14 June 1993, which are intended to carry a passenger may not be fitted with footrests but with hand holds attached to the motor bicycles frame adjacent to, or part of the seat. Refer to manufacturers information eg owners handbook
My sons RS125 has failed its mot with one cause being no rear footrest. On checking this, VOSA state that a bike with a pillion seat must have foot rests. 6.2 . Therefore a tester has the right to fail your bike, however most are unlikely too, if that is the only reason for a failure, especially if its a small bike.

Mine passed in October there with no rear foot rests.
I did have the plastic cover on though.
Mine has a seat cowl and I had removed the left hand peg and bracket, but left the right side as it also holds the exhaust. When it was MOT'd this year the tester removed the peg and pin as he said if there is one there must be both, but neither was fine. He gave me the bits in a bag. Fine by me as I never carry pillions, and the sort of service I expect from my regular bike shop.

Could have told him Heather Mills is your girlfriend.Fine by me as I never carry pillions, and the sort of service I expect from my regular bike shop.
It's nice to find helpful MOT testers like that. I took the car for MOT once and the tester found the exhaust hangers had snapped off. I explained I would go and weld them on but it would take me a couple of hours to drive home and back, so he just pulled his welder out and tacked them on himself to pass it

Yup, as above, i've had an MOT man mention it to me before - if it has the facility to carry a passenger (pillion seat basically) then it must have rear footrests.
With no passenger footpegs and the little plasitc cowl in place you'll be fine.
(Luckily my MOT man was lenient and let me off)
