I've got the Canon 60mm lens but wish I'd have purchased a 100mm instead so I could keep further away from the nasty little insects!

Have a look in the macro thread for examples. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Photo thread

4hero uses a Canon 100m and a MP-E65.

Most seem to prefer the 100mm for the quality of the glass.

I bought the Tamron 90mm after it came out top in a review in a Digital Camera magazine last autumn. The Canon 100mm came second if I remember correctly.

Seems a good lens, although I haven't used it very much and I haven't used the Canon 100mm either to compare.

I went for the Tamron on oobsters recommendation and not been disappointed so far (without macro flash, do have 430EXII to play with when get a chance, it's a nice portrait lens too-autofocus is a little noisy as per usual with Tamron but the manual focus is very smooth)
with flash hand held:

quick play on macro setting on 350D:

I'd recommend having a search for second hand/nearly new from some of the reputable dealers, as paid ~£250 for mine boxed inc delivery, I couldn't see any sign that it wasn't brand new (there are certainly Canon 100mm at similar price/less than link to Tamron OP put up & 90mm Tamron at same price as mine cost too).

ETA: Only had the lens a week or two hence no bugs yet
ETA: Came across 90mm Tamron at same price I paid too
