My Girl friend's sister was sent a NIP for suposedly speeding in the 40 limit just before you climb onto the motorway (M275) in Portsmouth. Now she clear remembers having a car flying past her at the time and thought - this is odd and was rather unsure what to do (she had her husband and 18 month old baby on board so was hardly going for the land speed record). Anyway she got all stressed about about as they were about to go on holiday - they only went for a week so were going to deal with it when they got back. Anyway when they got back there was a letter saying 'Sorry we made a mistake it wasn't you that was speeding, we are not continuing in this matter etc....'

Now what if she had been scared into replying and signed the NIP etc.? methinks this is rather dodgy if they are making such mistakes don't you?

I'm getting the impression from the local press that scamera partnerships are not checking the photgraphs properly probably as they have so many to deal with!.

As it's all down to making money surely it's cheaper for them, not to do the checking job properly, of course everyone is a criminal are'nt they. If a fault is identified by one of the criminals it will only be one in a million so why should they bother doing it properly.

I think its high time the photographs & evidence were provided as a matter of course with an explanation of how it all works. So the driver can the evidence obviously the scammers don't.

I know exactly which one you mean. If this is not the perfect example of a revenue raising camera I don't know what is. Just what was the safety issue that necessitated the placing of the camera at the start of a 3 lane motorway I wonder?
I amazed it is still intact actually, given that it is actually in Portsmouth.

In fairness to the camera, if you're in Lane 1 IIRC there is a petrol station with people entering/leaving on to the fast road...

However, if you're in lanes 2/3 you just want to apply pressure with the right foot!

Also I believe that there are no NSL signposts as you leave on the motorway...
So where does the 40 limit end?

There are motorway signs which I think mean the NSL is in force.

As far as the camera siting, I believe somebody crossed the road at rush hour a few years back while totally p!ssed off his head or on drugs and was killed - the road is very wide and very busy there! One other accident and you could be done. The 85% rule is easily fulfilled because it is literally yards from the beginning of the motorway.

I thought there used to be NSL signs just as the rise begins but they appear to have gone???

Anyway I have seen lots of flowers on the side of the road there so I imagine there have been deaths - but surely a better way to deal with it would be to bring the armco that seperates the flyover and the slip road further back - as some idoits try to get out of the petrol station and then straight onto the motorway instead of going do the slip road across the roundabout and rejoining just down the road.

Anyway I see that camera going off everytime I go past it on the way to the Island, they most have wrongfully acussed loads of people....
