Flying with Kids
Discussion
I know it's not big and not clever, but we are booked to go on holiday at half term on a certain Orange airline.
We'll be travelling with our 6 month old and to be honest, it's been so long since we last flew with a toddler (8 years) that I've forgotten what the rules are about pushchairs. Once the boy was up and walking, he pretty much looked after himself!
The littlest will be sitting on mum or dads lap, so doesn't get a luggage allowance (even though we have to pay for a ticket for her???) No seat, no luggage, certainly Sir, that'll be £50.
Anyway, specific queries:-
Can we take the pushchair through the airport / security? Does it go right up to the gate? Or do we have to check it in?
Do you have to fold the push chair up and get it x-rayed?
Is baby food / milk exempt from the 100ml liquid limit?
I've just had 4 flights on my own this month and was on the look out for people travelling with toddlers, but didn't see any!

I would direct your queries to the airline and BAA/the airport operator - your missus will not be best pleased if you get a load of dodgy advice from some blokes on a car forum and then present that as gospel.
That said, most airlines let you take a buggy up to the aircraft steps and whether it then goes on board or in the hold depends on how many other pushchairs there are/how big the onboard lockers are. If it goes in the hold it will usually be at the aircraft steps waiting for you when you get off. It will need to be x-rayed.
For baby food - no idea - check with BAA etc

We went ith our 6month old last summer with the orange airline and they were fine - you can take the pushchair to the plane, it does need to be folded up and x-rayed. As for milk you should be ok - my wife had to drink some of the containers to prove it was milk. Also the airline will let you take the check in the carseat for free.
As has already been said I would confirm with airline and BAA just in case anything has changed

I've travelled a number of times with Easyjet with my young daughter (assuming that's who you mean) and have found that they are great for infants. You say they don't get a free bag but - nobody does! Easyjet charge for all checked luggage now. However, infants do get the following checked luggage for free:
pushchair / buggy
carseat and
travel cot
You can choose to check in your buggy (like I normally do) or take it to the plane steps.
You also get to board first which is something you have to pay for otherwise.

Wev'e got one of these http://www.preciouslittleone.com/product-informati... for our next trip, it folds up into a bag which is suitable size for hand luggage.
Just been up to the airport.
The orange airline allow you two bits of baby equipment. So that is push chair / car seat or push chair / travel cot. You can take the push chair to the gate and the other bit gets checked in.
As everyone suggested, you can take made up milk in a bottle, but will be asked to taste it at security. No ready made cartons of milk / formula / food.
Thanks for all your help.

+1we always take the pushchair right up to the plane door and then get the nipper out and take her down the aisle
you also get speedy boarding for free if you have an infant so it means you'll be one of the first on the plane
and yes, you do have to fold the thing up and xray it

I've always been able to get three bits of baby equipment checked in: buggy, cot and seat. The orange airline allow you two bits of baby equipment. So that is push chair / car seat or push chair / travel cot. You can take the push chair to the gate and the other bit gets checked in.
