Help/advice from PHers, i am going insane, just recently split with the GF just before Christmas so feeling pretty down and have not really been out since, apart from work (yuk). But i realise that i have to move on.
I have totally had enough of staying in every night,i need to get motivated and do something.(what i dont know) I also have a 12 year old son who lives with me so looking for something for us both to do or somewhere to go in the evenings, we have already done the cinema/bowling scene on weekends,so any other sensible suggestions welcome.

Sweeping chimneys....;)

If you're more 'sporty', how about some sort of Martial Art?

indoor climbing. see if any walls local and go along they will offer instruction if you need to, kids seem to like it.

My son is desperate to go Snowboarding at Chill Factor with me. I think he just wants to watch me fall over though! Do you have anything like that near you?

Take up fishing? That's the weekends sorted at least. And evenings come summer..

Is there anything your son is interested in that you could help with like a local football team?

Also, with him heading into his teens, you might find he will be spending more evenings out with his friends so an interest solely for you could be better.

Take him swimming. Perhaps go karting together?
I enjoyed fishing too.

Both of these are great ideas. Once you have got the hang of them you can book up to go on a holiday with him.

Learning to snowboard about 7 years ago with my son was one of the best things I've done. He was about 14 at the time Although we're both quite competitive so it always ended in tears.... and he was a complete liability on the slopes.
Climbing is great fun and its great to have someone to go along with. Would also recommend wakeboarding / waterskiing if you have a lake nearby.

+1

I go regularly, keeps me (relatively) fit and it's good fun for kids. It's a good confidence builder too.

Take up Climbing. It's easy, kids pick it up real fast, is confidence building and full of fit people to drool over and normal people to talk to about how sickeningly fit the fit people are.

If you are in the north west preston area or manchester and would like to have a go climbing I dont mind taken you and your son to Preston West view climbing wall or I am trying the rochdale wall this weekend.

Not been climbing too long, but at least would give you a taster.

Thank you all everyone, there are some really good suggestions, we may well try indoor rock climbing first as i know there is a place not to far away, also swimming as i know that he enjoys that as well.
Can`t wait for warmer lighter nights to be honest, will also be back out on the push bikes.(Roll on summer)
