Lets be clear, if I had my way ties would be illegal.

I absolutley hate them but I have to wear them now and again

Does anyone know which materials or any specific brands that are very leightweight so you don't really know they are there?

My brother in law has one from NEXT which is exceptionally soft but it doesnt say what material its made from.

I think silk ties are meant to be the best, but I have seen lots in the shops and they don;t feel particularly light (compared to other materials)

I am in near Central London tomorrow so any shops near Oxford Street are do-able. Cheap tho!

This

Although failing that I would try and locate a Tee-xedo, or a T-shirt tuxedo with a tie printed on there, comfy and classy.

Jermyn St... most of the street. Cheap ties look liek cheap ties. By a couple of nice ones and they will last for decades and will be timeless.

Asda 3 for £7
If you wear a tie on a regular basis, I'd doubt you'd "feel" it?

Silk should be lighter and look-smarter than artificial fibres.

Weight also depends on how it's made - I've got some beautiful ones from Thailand and Vietnam which are half the thickness of most of the UK-high-street stuff. This does mean I need to be careful not to get a knot the size of a small strawberry, but if you want "light and forgettable", then that certainly works.

I'd suggest looking in the sales-bins of some of the higher-quality mens shops...chances are they'll have something suitable.

OP: TK Maxx - top quality ties at prices you won't mind if you're only planning on wearing the tie once in a blue moon.

Have you consulted a priest about this, or tried counselling...?

I always waited for sales and then bought up a few Boss, and Paul smith ties, never had a problem with them. Won't pay the £50 rrp though.

Have to wear for work, I try to avoid it when possible but the pressure is there.

Will try Jermyn Street - dont exactly want to spend big bucks so I dont wanan feel like a muppet by going into all the expensive shops and coming straight out - though I could do with a shirt or two.

Anyone know somewhere where I can go and get measured for some shirts and have posted to me? Cheapest place obviously!
