My 4g 60GB is playing up, and Im beginning to think its had the fault for a while.

The OEM battery died many moons ago and I replaced it with one from Ipod doctor.

This never really seemed to hold a charge particularly well, but I put it down to cheapy goods really.

Anyway, that has since died and I have just fitted a new battery from Maplins.
This has lasted about 2 days before dying and not responding to charge.

If I plug the mains charger into it, it all fires up perfectly and shows as charged, but when I unplug the mains lead it dies immediatly.

Is it repairable, if so by whom ? I dont really want to send it to Apple as the back was engraved as a 40th present and Ive heard Apple dont always use the original back. This may be bull of course.

Long shot but have you opened and closed the case? For some reason this performs a nice hard reset on my 4g ipod when it's refusing to respond (unhappy ipod face) and all is well again.

Sounds like sir has no connections to the battery to charge it, it works fine off main power, but the connection between chargable battery and charger is broken/kinked/snapped?

Open it up and see if all the wires are there?

There's only 2 wiresto connect and the new battery lasted a few days before going flat, which would suggest to me that thee may be a problem elsewhere.
