RX8 catalytic converter

The catalytic converter on my RX8 has gone apparently. I'm waiting for Mazda to cost it, but can anyone give me an indication of how much to expect?

My car is a 56 plate (34k), and I wasn't expecting this so soon - any similar experiences?

Sorry to hear that mate, had the same problem last year with mine, mazda quoted me £2000-£3000, which I thought was a joke.
I instead went with this

Mazda will also tell you the 02 sensor is not working, they are probably right. These you will definitely want to get from mazda, they should cost around £200 if i remeber correctly.

Could always decat it between mot's the replacement would last ages then;)

The cat alone is £1300+VAT> IIRC, and then labour and sensors etc.

The sensor usually does go, and if it is faulty will damage your new cat.

Aftermarket ones are fine, we offer customers which are out of warranty a genuine or non genuine one.

Coils is something to check/get checked too if your cat has gone.

In the same boat mate.

My CAT has collapsed and the cat back part of the exhaust has rusted itself enough that i will need to chisel the connection apart.

Anyway long story short I need a new cat and the cat back system.

Best price I have found for a high flow cat is £500 ish!

Cheapest things is £220 + Vat which is a de-cat pipe. Been speaking to specialist (hyline in South Wales) who know everything any anything about Jap cars.

If you decide to go de-cat I have been told that a re-map is necessary to stop the car going into limp mode. Re-map costs around £600 (don’t go cheap on this as you could ruin it)

Keep me updated on the prices you find as I am still looking and cant make my mind up, most tempting is a blue flame exhaust and highflow cat - £1k ish(still saving)

I had the problem last year, took the cat off and smashed it all out with a hammer and pipe, fitted it back on with no problems what-so-ever.

Thanks guys. Got the quote back today from main dealer. £1540.00... Just 4 months out of manufacturer warranty and was told it can happen at any age / mileage car. Gutted.

Takes the edge of the enjoyment.

I've just bought myself a 56 plate RX8-PZ with low mileage and was hoping that i wouldn't even have to think about a Cat for a long time yet! The idea of removing it entirely between MOT's is looking attractive......

I've also just been quoted an estimated £2K by a Mazda dealer for a replacement cat - they also say that until the cat is replaced they cannot determine what else is wrong. Does this sound right?

What are the symptoms?
