Hi, Im going to see 525 M sport auto diesel tomorrow. The guy said that it has full BMW service history. I wanted to check that should I go ahead and get RAC inspection done or can I trust BMW service history (next one due in 11k miles).

Im interested in that car and the guy sounds genuine. Anything I should look for specifically while inspecting the car? Any help would be much appreciated.

Car details:
55 reg
76k miles
MOT until Nov

Thanks
Kay

I brought mine at auction it had done 90,000 or so with full BMW service history , only thing we noticed on picking the car up after paying was , in neutral with the clutch out it would make a slight vibration when the car came to a standstil confused noise would only happen when the car stopped moving , BMW can not say what it is and it seems to not be getting worse .

Other than that i have had 1 wheel bearing fail and then just normal servicing , i have had her 18 months or so and shes a great car , i do a lot of long haul cross Euro trips and she is perfect for this , average of 39.3 mpg over my ownership

I guess you just need to check the obvious

They are great cars enjoy smile

Thanks - this sounds good. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for that? He is asking £13,900. Its in metallic blue with black dakota leather and the usual gizmos including european sat nav and full media pack.

I really liked the car - very genuine but slightly pricey so hoping for a deal under 13k, if not then probably it was not intended for me smile

My mate bought a 530D M Sport, black, full leathers, xenons, Head up display, sat nav for £12,600 last October.

£13,900 is over priced for a less powerful car IMO. I'm sure most would agree with me here too.

I had a 525 M-sport on an '07 plate that had the original 2.5 straight six. It was a lovely engine but only returned, on average 27mpg. Later in '07 they changed the 525 to run de-tuned 3.0 six pot out of the 530, which is noticeably less thirsty.

If MPG is a problem, I’d strongly suggest a 520 or a 530. There is not much power difference between the 520 and the 525, but you will get far better economy. Granted the six pot has a much nicer beat than the four cylinder of the 520, but expect to sacrifice anywhere between 10 and 15 mpg for this.

The 530 will return you the same if not better MPG and you will benefit from the extra power/torque/larger brakes/etc.

Thanks for the info - I never thought about 530 as I thought they would be more thirsty. How about insurance?

Agreed on the benefits of a 530d over the de-tuned 525. Both are great cars, one is truly excellent and no doubt you owe it to yourself to make the right choice!

Before a change mid 2007 the 525 was a true 2.5 and after this it shares the same 3.0 engine as the 530 but in de-tuned form.

If i'm not mistaken the 3.0 in real life is as economical as the 2.5. I was always returning 27 mpg in the 525, but a work colleague with the 530 was getting 32. Both were 2007 cars doing similar mileages etc.

On the insurance front I think any increase would be minimal - best to get a quote.

The standard 530d also got the M-Tec engine (+20hp)at some point, but it will take a bigger beard than me to give the exact date.
