350 still does not want to run

found location for new relay ,injection system "Main" ( easy really as it was still the cleanest from last time you were here)
ignition on
pressed airflow meter but no buzz from the fuel pump ? tried again ,still nothing.
carried on regardless in turning over the engine WOW a bang ,smoke and the bottom of the air flow meter blown off
i am no expert but i dont think that was suppose to happen (it will stick back on and i do have a spare)
what next in this long running saga.
cheers

Graham, that was one of the unanswered questions last time I saw Stephen's car. We did get it coughing and farting a bit as though the HT leads were wrong but even moving them around made no difference.
As I recall the sparks were a bit feeble and if the ignition amp doesn't produce a fat spike the ECU hasn't a clue what's going on.
From memory (it was last June!) 5 of the 8 injectors were stuck, having been dry for so long but Stephen sorted them with an uncalibrated tapometer
We linked out the pump relay so the rail was definitely priming.
The ECU turned out to have a blown IC but that only showed up on road test (using my car) and the only effect was to kill the 'accelerator pump' (ie no enrichment under hard acceleration). Apart from that my car pulled well - and even better with the IC replaced
It could have been faulty for years and a previous owner may have never realised.
Stephen, I need to become a kept man so I can mooch around fixing people's TVRs for them...

Thursday is fixed but I think I can swing the Stoke job till Friday AM... which could work out quite well, because I could pop into Alderley on Thursday, nip across to Burton afterwards (3-ish?) then pop back across to a hotel in Stoke for an early start Friday morning. That gives me a second crack at your car on Friday aftie if we don't sort it first go

Shaun could get his hands dirty as well, he needs the practice

hi ian
will be ready for your arrival Thursday (meeting 10.30am oxford which hopefully not cause any problems).
we three amegos shaun ,you and me , on Thursday could go out being merry if you wish ,ending in a curry
would have responded a bit earlier but was out and about in the 400 yesterday and it broke down (ha ha on me) the aa were very good and quick , ended up being a fuse ? but as always there in is another problem to resolve as it was melted ?
back to the subject in hand
when i took the afm of there was traces of oil in the pipe leading to the afm
which i think shouldn't be there (piston rings or crap as it has not run for some time ?)
thanks

I can call you to confirm as i will call ian tomorrow for clarification.
Stephen
in my ownership the car has never run (double digit years)
i have wasted money on a garage and tried to fix myself , whilst having to listened to so many people regarding what's wrong with it and why its not running .
never given up as i knew that one day it will run.
now i realize that the car has been waiting for mr right
mr right being wedg1e / ian ,who in two hours ended my 10+ year heart ache (i will post on utube the car running as soon as i can work out how to) many, many thanks to a man that can.
also my thanks to pilo-wedgebits /shaun if you need any help ring me ( no good with electrics )

Oh, and the important question...why wouldn't it run ?
Ignition timing was JUST far enough out that it wouldn't catch, not aided by the distributor being a slightly different version of the 35DLM8 that has the ignition amp and vacuum capsule opposite each other (rather than adjacent) which limits how far you can swing it.
Also the diode steering module had gone pop, probably due to it being plugged into the wrong socket at some stage.
Should point out that most of the time was taken up with gassing and drinking coffee...
though we did double-check the crank pulley timing marks and position of rotor arm, fuel pressure etc. before we turned the key. Or rather Shaun did
That engine sounds NICE
