I've been thinking about buying an S Type for a daily drive for some time now. I was looking at a petrol version, but it now seems as if the diesel prices have droped below the equivalent petrol model.

Are there problems with ths diesel, I was looking at a £10k budget?

I've got a 3-litre petrol, and ok the fuel consumption isn't great, but I use it for longer trips and it goes like stink. I appreciate that for the daily drive economy is more important, but is the diesel really that much more efficient? I only drove one once and it was a bit underwhelming to be honest.

Diesels have had loads of issues with the particulate filter not regeneration and the car going into 'restricted performance' mode. Lovely engine though, when it works.

(also has to be said, judging by various forum posts, the XF 2.7 also suffers from the same thing)

Interesting I'm on my second S diesel the first went fro 43K to 84K & the second has gone from 15K to 38K in my ownership. Not had any issues on either. They do however get driven properly & don't do many very short journeys which could be important. The first was a pre Euro 4 & the second is Euro 4 & both have averaged 35MPG in my ownership.

Yep, it seems some cars don't suffer and others do. Jaguar bought my father's back because they couldn't cure it. Bt as I say, lovely, sweet engine and a very tidy handling car

Would be interesting to find out if the same engine has had issues in the various French motors it has been fitted in as well. I know lots of low mileage Peugeots & Renaults that have owners complaining of DPF problems.
