So occasionally i like a bit of classical music. But I don't really know much about it at all.

I like the uplifting stuff, and I quite like Clint Mansell but his is more OST stuff. Amazing never the less.

There was quite a big thread on it last month with someone asking a very similar question but if you wait for Saturday morning, Classic FM does the chart show. No Sugar Babes in it nor that Haiti song.

If you can still get hold of a copy, buy Sven Goran Eriksson's Classical Collection Box Set (Published in 2002 by Naxos). It contains the best bits of the best classical music.

Probably best off listening to Radio 3 when you have spare time, or as said get a 'best of' collection and explore the composers you enjoy the most.

Its an extremely large period of time to cover. I would recommend Wagner, Widor, Brahms. For uplifting composers maybe Handel, Dvorak, Mendelssohn and probably a bit of Mozart.

laugh Also, check out Sir Georg Solti's Best Goals of 2004!

Best thing you can do is

1) spend some time on YouTube
2) listen to Classic FM
3) Buy some Classic FM type box sets

This way you can decide what YOU like and buy stuff based on that. It's pointless recommending stuff as "classical" music is a ridiculously broad church! Having said that, one of these threads pops up every couple of months.

Coincidentally, if you like Clint Mansell, you might want to pop over to the PWEI thread running elsewhere!

hehe

But, yea. There are a number of threads in this section on this subject. How deep does the rabbit hole go, OP? Do a search.
