I just got the wifes car MOT'd at a local garage.

They only charged her £35 for a MOT.

I thought they were dearer than that?

The garage is called AKM Autopint in Larkhall if anyone else is due a MOT.

Cheers

Think they can charge what they want so prices vary.

A friend of mine went for a 35 pound MOT last year at a large Glasgow MOT center, and ended up being told he needed new shocks, tyres, windscreen wipers, and other stuff I can't recall. Total cost was over 500 pounds.

He told them not to bother doing the work - he'd get it done elsewhere. They then told him that they could do the work for 240, by not charging him for labour. This is a 2nd hand story, so I don't know the truth in it, but it all seems a bit fishy. Not charging for labour? Lolwut? smile

Running my own garage the VOSA people do not want you selling cheap MOT's. Not illegal but what erdnase states you can get a dubious test.In this day and ageit seems cool to be a shark, not me .Not Mr Righteous and waving wand but a a good job for a fair price. If in doubt get a second opinion.Trust a smaller garage that comes with local good feedback.Thats my best advertising-regular customers recommending incomers of a reasonable garage.

Max is something like £53.50 garages can charge for one.

Thats what the main manufacturer dealers seem to like to charge, I went elsewhere!

£54 i paid for my last 2 MOT's.

The guy's are ace at giving me as long as i need before a re-test though, makes a difference when i don't always have the time to fix my own cars around customer's work.

That is very good indeed. I thought £54 was a standard tariff for MOTs. Where are you? And nice motor by the way. I bet you have a bit of fun in that in this weather? OJ

To try and avoid this I only take my car to MOT centres that only do MOTs, that way there's no chance they're fishing for additional work so are likely to do it properly IMO.

I take all my cars to the Andover MOT Supercentre - Service and an MOT for £99 and they are brilliant. Proper fault diagnosis, extremely flexible, great rates and a joy to deal with.

Try your local council MOT station. I use the one in Paisley and it has been great. No incentive to rip you off.

Does that include full re-test if necessary?
