I have a client in Germany, Jaco Velders, who has a great offer to race in this year's NBR 24hr - the greatest race on the calendar, and not for the faint hearted!!!
His BMW 325i race cars are soooooo well set up for the Ring, and very reliable and easy to drive, fast... which is just what you want in that mega race.

Experience the legendary Nurburgring 24hr race with a E36 BMW 325i from 'Jaco's
Paddock Motorsport'. The proven 325 is the mature and reliable answer to
competing and completing this awesome race on the world's greatest and most
challenging circuit.

We will provide you with the complete package for this truly great event - before,
during and after the race. You will stay in the luxurious 'Ring Villa in Adenau - with
your guests too if you wish. We have also arranged exclusive catering for you and

I can personally vouch for Jaco being a top bloke and having well set up cars.
Just be careful if you go drinking with him. You probably won't keep up.

Tempting but Im about 7k euros short at the mo, I think I'd want a bit more ring experience though too before jumping straight into the 24hr.. Its definitely on my todo list though...

Don't forget that you need a special ring license for the 24 hr race which I think involves competing at a VLN race before - most of the teams offering drives chuck this in with the price of the 24 hr race as there is normally a VLN race a few days before the 24 hr

Not quite that automatic.
Technically you need an Int. C, but you can apply to the clerk of the course (IIRC) for an exemption.
If you have neither an Int. C nor VLN experience, it might be tough to get that exemption. More to the point, if you have neither an Int. C nor VLN experience, it might not be that good an idea in the first place.
With no VLN experience, even guys with Int. As - serious pros - are expected to do a familiarisation course earlier in that week.

Crankshaft journals fitted incorrectly, car on dyno, oil suddenly contaminated with bearing material. different wheels on each side of the car during a race, not replacing worn bushes as promised and, allegedly, that Elise is not even his! I have heard that it is in fact someone elses property that has never been returned.

Well, I did the Dubai 24h with Jaco and his team and can only say it was a great experience. Very professional.

Yep, read the report. He is obviously still buying those cheapo halfrauds carlos fandango wheels or else you wouldn't have had to complete the race on 3 and 1.

Except that it was a wheel stud, a BMW standard part, that failed - one goes and they all take more load leading to losing a wheel as I entered the pits. We also had a wheel bearing go on the other front hub fail a few hours earlier. Not bad for a nearly road std M3. As I said, a very good experience.

So he's still buying the Taiwanese wheel bearings as well then?

Wheel bearing is integral to the hub, another BMW STD part.

I'll mention that to the team whose car the illustrious Paddock-meister was spraying with its finish coat of paint - in the open air in his garden with bits of dirt, leaves, grass-clippings and bugs flying everywhere.
Or should I mention it to the team who were getting invoiced for "new, factory" suspension parts which, when the suspiciously shiny paint was lightly scraped away, revealed an underlying layer of rust from previous years of service prior to when they came for sale at a breaker's yard?
