Tell me about them. Always been fascinated by this.

Did they go nuts and tell you to f**l off in the first instance?

Anything out of the ordinary I would be interested to hear about.

The first job I had out of uni; the MD was an absolute (convicted terrorist as well). First day of a two week holiday I fax my resignation. Get back from my holiday got invited into his office where we had a frank exchange of views. Suddenly he leapt over the desk; grabbed me by the tie; yanked me down and put me in an arm lock. Pretty scary stuff! Needless to say I didn't work the rest of my notice period...

I only ask as my last one was a bit weird.

Handed in my notice as required by contract for them to tell me that I would be performing any duties that they could find for me to do, but not my job role because of the type of job it was and info I was privy to.

I said thats pointless because you'll be paying me to do token jobs and I'll be wasting my life.

"Well how about you write me a letter waiving your notice period then, not that I'm putting words into your mouth"

I wrote a letter to the effect that I would reduce my notice period to 2 weeks and another saying I was happy to work 4 weeks notice as required.

I showed her both and said take your pick, this one I'm here for 4 weeks and the other I leave now.

2 weeks paid. Nice.

I got a great job once, handed in my notice to my boss, who was great about it, dissapointed, but said congrats, excatly the right way to act.

I went and told his boss (head of dept), who demanded to know where I was going and what they were paying me. Eventually told him, only for him to say that he can't afford to pay me that much (I wasn't asking him to) and that the company I was going to was rubbish and a huge mistake.

Best thing I ever did!
