Random E46 coupe questions.
Discussion
I've had my 3-series coupe about a month now and there's a few questions I have that are of little importance but leave me curious.
The car is a 2004 facelifted 318Ci M-Sport FWIW.
1) What purpose does the roof mounted 'bulge' with vents in serve?
2) On the head-light control module I have a small LED that never illuminates - is this for models with active lighting and a standard module that is fitted? (My car does'nt have Xenons or active lights)
3) Under what conditions do the headlights auto-adjust when turning the lights on?
If anyone can satisfy my curiosty then I would be grateful. Also, if there are any insider tricks or information about the car then that too would be useless but interesting. I think on E36 fuel computers there were hidden settings? I did'nt know if E46's had such things on any aspects of the car.

Ultrasonic alarm sensor I think - check www.realoem.com for diagrams

Not an LED ? Sensor which senses darkness and illuminates the headlight control
3) Under what conditions do the headlights auto-adjust when turning the lights on?
I've only had E46s with xenons so didn't know that non xenon cars had autolevelling. Someone who knows more will be along soon.
Come to thing of it, I don't recall ever seeing a facelift coupe without xenons !

1) What purpose does the roof mounted 'bulge' with vents in serve?
As above - this is the alarm sensor.
2) On the head-light control module I have a small LED that never illuminates - is this for models with active lighting and a standard module that is fitted? (My car does'nt have Xenons or active lights)
It's not an LED - it's a light sensor. It automatically varies the interior lighting when you go through tunnels/when the sun is particularly bright - this is in conjunction with the manual dimming.
3) Under what conditions do the headlights auto-adjust when turning the lights on?
All facelift coupes come with projectors but not necessarily Xenons. All will run through a check sequence when the car is turned on regardless of the lights being on/off. As stated in a thread a couple of weeks ago, this is a self check function to ensure that the lights are able to adjust to their full range of heights.
