Had the Nikon 5000 for a month or two now.

OK using it for general shots, really getting to grips with it.

So, I thought a long exposure night sky, or shot of the moon would be good !! Shame the camera did not have the same opinion. its just kept saying OBJECT TOO DARK

I pressed and pressed, but it was having none of it !! I tried it on Bulb , on tripod and on 30 seconds exp ahhh!!!

Any ideas - probably something straight forward, but what i do not know!!!

Cheers

Nick

First, give it a good talking to about its spelling (Too dark).

Is it trying to autofocus? Try manual focus.

Wild hunch - you may be using it on Auto mode or similar. It's telling you that it thinks there isn't enough light to take a photo - useful for idiots but not for PHers! When you took charge and stuck in on B it worked smile

I took your post to mean that when you put it on B (bulb) it worked...?

If it's set to manual (by which I mean *manual exposure* not manual focus - in other words 'M' as opposed to 'A', 'S' or 'P') I don't see why it's not firing.

ETA: Maybe a menu setting? Check the book (if I call it a manual we'll get even more confused!)

Dunno then.

When does it say object too dark? When you first press the button? Has it actually taken a picture but the pic is black?

I would put everything in manual and see what you can do. Manual ISO, Manual focus, Manual mode and then try diff settings for shutter/aperture.

Can you work out how dark things need to be before it keels over?

edit does it have auto white balance as well? Everything manual.

(or throw it away and buy a proper camera)

consider blue touch paper ignited. hehe
