"We can't simply price people off the railways as a way of solving overcrowding."
So it's OK for the roads but not OK for the railways? Ghod, but that man
makes me angry.

I'd like to know why we can't have new roads due to the environmental damge they cause, yet seeminly ploughing a high speed rail link through the countryside is deemed acceptable? Also, let's not labour under this "oh aren't trains green and wonderful" illusion - where do you think the power comes from? Yes my car pollutes, but it only pollutes when I'm using it, whereas trains run full or empty...what a waste of electricity. And what's the big deal about being able to get from London to Glasgow in two hours by train? You could fly it in half the time and at less cost.
Talking of flying, someone at work was printing off a Government white paper about the expansion of the airline industry in the UK (dated Dec 2003). Had a quick scan through the introduction from Mr Darling whilst I was doing some photocopying...made me want to break something. Loads of crap about "having to expand airports to meet capacity". So they can expand airports to meet capacity but at the same time propose charging us to use existing road space? What a bunch of hypocrites.

Trains and planes are public transport, so expand to meet demand. Cars are a private means of personal freedom and therefore de facto hated. Please keep up!
Maybe I should paint "Arriva" down the side of my car and pretend to be a bus?
I'm not against the idea of a decent rail network, but we really ought to get the current shambles sorted out before we even bother thinking about high speed links.

The government honestly (no kidding here) believes that people only drive because they can't rely on the bus.
OK, so that might explain for the high number of Toyota Corollas, but what strikes me about these government bigwigs is that none of them drive!
Back seat drivers!
They have chauffeurs, don't they?!!! In gas-guzzlers -paid for by us!
Seem to remember Johnny Three (Four??) Jags making a big scene about "walking" to the office. His Jag followed him with his briefcase and red box!
