It's a fecking heavy beach cruiser, so much fun though, it's got a coaster brake which is fantastic for skidding too.

If Pablo is getting the tandem I was gonna do it on that, if not i'm torn between going balls out all the way there on my Langster, or doing it on the beach cruiser for the hell of it, but it'll be SS whatever happens.

I had a major falling off after the chain came off once, I stood up for a sprint and as I applied the power the chain came off resulting in a very nasty face plant, I've been rather paranoid ever since!Any troubles with the chain coming off etc??

SS is good fun but I iften find the lack of gearchange frustrating, more so on the downhill as you quickly spinout
SS off-road is great, I don't have any chain problems as I have an eccentric bottom bracket on mine. I try to avoid chain tensioners at all costs, i'd much rather have sliding dropouts, an EBB or an eccentric hub. Generally speaking I love singlespeed bikes both on and off-road, the only downside is downhills that are too steep to warrant pedalling, but you want to go faster. Aside from that there's no faults for me.

I love the look of some of these single speed, and I can see the advantage of them in a city environment, but am struggling to understand why you would choose a single gear on a mountain bike. Does it not seriously restrict your cycle routes? The routes I cycle on my mtb could not be done on a single speed bike. Even if you had Arnie size leg muscles! If someone could explain the pleasure/ advantage of these SS off road to me it would be much appreciated.

Next time you are out try sticking to one really nice middle gear, that is what it's like to ride SS.Agreed tho I wouldn't fancy doing a seriously hilly route on mine but for most time it is more than fine.
