Spies catch the Ferrari 599 GTO in the flesh

"It seems everyone’s getting excited about the latest rumored Ferrari. The 599 GTO could be unveiled at this years Beijing Motor Show (23rd April – 2nd May) which means that it is perfectly possible that these spyshots show the car in its development stages. Whilst they don’t reveal much about the car, we thought you might still be interested in seeing them.
What the pictures lack in detail, the rumours don’t. Firstly, it’s now being suggested that the 599 GTO will be Ferrari’s fastest road car of all time. Understandable considering we know already know that it will have 670bhp. Secondly, the cars base will be an unrated version of the HGTE edition 599. Rumours here suggest that the ammount of downforce on the GTO will be double that of the standard car, perhaps making it the ideal trackday toy. New alloys are obviously going to be part of the package.
The likely base for the 599 GTO will be the customer development mule; the 599XX. Both cars would share the 6,0 liter V12 unit, originating from the Enzo and alowing a 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint of just 3.2 seconds. We can’t wait to see the GTO in person, however, when it does go on sale it will be an extremely limited car, selling for around €320,000 (£280,000) a piece."

...and here arises a problem I have with Ferrari just now.
I think it has to be made much prettier! Don't get me wrong, I love the 599 and it is very pretty, but this is, apparently, to wear a GTO badge; it needs to be good looking and special. I know I am making a judgment on spyshots, that ultimately might change a lot before production.
Another thing I find annoying is the triple exhausts on the 458. The triple exhausts harks to the F40, so surely they should be kept for the top of their range(the new Enzo) not, what will probably become, their biggest seller.
Maybe I am being silly.

i am guessing none of the modern day ones yes?
When the 288 GTO was launched, I was only 15 but read all the magazines and don't remember any particular backlash from the old guard who thought that the new model was in any way offensive.
I see this car a test for Ferrari's sensitivity to its history...
Will the standard car have those trademark GTO bonnet vents? (the 288 GTO didn't but there is a worrying amount of duct-tape on the mule in the photo's posted by the OP).

Will there be a Breadvan version?

I thought the 'Breadvan' was based on a 250 GT SWB, rather than a GTO? I see this car a test for Ferrari's sensitivity to its history...

My all time favourite Ferrari would be either the 250 SWB or the 360 Challenge Stradale.i am guessing none of the modern day ones yes?
I actually like a lot of the modern Ferraris and have had the privilege of experiencing a few(F430 Spider, 599 GTB etc).
My main opinion is that Ferrari is watering the brand down. It is using iconic features to sell more. I know that is the point of a business, but they are not using the features on their best cars. As long as the 599 GTO is special, beautiful and exclusive, I believe it has hit the mark.

Yes you are being silly, stop whinging and start saving. You'll feel less uptight if you can actually buy one
To be honest, I find this ridiculous. I perhaps might buy a Ferrari later in life, but it is not the most important thing in my life. Doesn't mean I don't dream of them;)Gassing Station | Supercar General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
