tyre width query

I want to fit R888's to a 94 griff with standard wheels 15 front 7J 16 rear 7.5J. Can anyone advise on maximum tyre width that will fit in the arches without rubbing?

Also how easy is it to get hold of a pair of 16" fornt wheels to match the rears?

please ignore the relative benefits of R888's etc I have that covered

It all depends on the tyre construction, most of the manufacturers publish spec sheets for their tyres with the suitable rim sizes.

Also on the front size pas or not is an issue,previous owner had fitted 225 on a non pas set up and it was hard work,they are more recomended for pas set ups,i changed the wheels so opted for the non pas choice of 215 section,much better..... 245 on the back by the way,also 15 fronts might cause a tyre selection headache,im on 17" all round

quinny/spend - thanks, I should have explained i am sorted on the rim widths but just want to know what will actually fit in the arches front and rear without rubbing. I managed to get 235 front and 255 rear in my last cerb for example. Has anyone tried 235/255's?

maybe a set of 17's would make life easier as well

235 - but they do rub on full lock.

255 - they do fit, we lowered the offset to make sure they wouldn't catch whilst running low.
should be fine at a std height, However no all bodies are straight/even so check
yours out before hand.

Mine for one but take into account what Andy has said

And what with the tyre issues facing owners with the 15" front wheels 17" all round is well worth it imho


Edit to add you can then look at fitting some large discs and 4 pot callipers with the 17 front wheel i have the 330mm discs with AP Racing 4 pot callipers and they are nothing short of miraculous compared to the standard Griff 500 set up

I run 265/35 18" on the back of mine. They were fine till I had the geo done, then they rubbed a little so I had the inner arches opened up a bit

I have Toyo Proxes T1-S on the Front 205/55/ZR15 (non-PAS) and find that they still rub following a VERY small ride height adjustment .. but only on full lock sono big deal.

I like the odd track day & dont find that I need more from end grip - its all about balance rather than width vicar !
