Moving house next month so looking at TV/BB/phone packages.

Currently on Virgin V+ HD etc. but no cable where we're going so most likely Sky is the way to go (there's a dish at the house).

Anyway, looking online at Sky packages and associated costs, what I want to know is, can you haggle with Sky (I managed to get V+ cheaper than advertised) and if so, how much discount am I likely to get?

Looking at 20MB BB, basic phone and TV with variety and knowledge pack. Would ideally like sports but not too fussed, only if I can get a reasonable amount off etc.

Also, do I "have" to take "line rental"? It's not clear on the website. If not, must I have a BT paid line rental instead? i.e. I can select the phone package and the line rental section I am able to select but not clear if I have to........ Nothing clear in the small print that I can see either, is it just sneakyness on their part?

Also, anyone know if the world cup will be on HD on sky?

I doubt you'll get very far haggling with Sky as a new customer. They aren't quite as desperate as Virgin for new business.

I've just arranged a Sky+HD install for Friday (through clenched teeth wink ) as i want Eurosport & Motors TV. I've gone for the basic package (no Movies or Sports yet) and dumped a couple of the Entertainment packs to get it down to £30 per month.

You don't have to take their phone service or have a BT line. There should be a check box for not having a landline and when you confirm you have to click to agree that you'll have a landline from another provider within a few weeks of Sky fitting your kit. I have a Virgin phone line & Cable Broadband and there's no way i'm going back to BT for it.

I expect the World Cup will be on Eurosport plus the usual BBC & ITV offerings.

If you join via quidco you should get upto £65 back on the sky hd plus deal and then sign up for phone and broadband should get you another £50 back. You must go to the sky site via the quidco portal or you get nothing

It wont be instant it takes a couple of months

If you sign up and transfer your phone rental to them the unlimited broadband pack gets reduced to £10 per month

Agree with this. Not sure if they are still having the same "problem" but I was paid out £150 in total (and all I took was Sky+ HD, not ADSL or any other extras!).

I took my phone line through sky as it was cheaper than BT.. Re the broadband packages you might not be able to get their broadband in your area therefore you'll have to have the broadband connect! It's due to the exchange being modified so other companies can use it other than BT? the connect is a BT product.

I was annoyed by this as i took everything through them as it worked out really cheap with the mid broadband package that i wanted which was £5 month! then to be told i could only get conect at £17 a month! i phoned up customer services to moan and they said couldn't discount connect as it's price was set by BT, but has given me free line rental instead (saving £11 a month) which means my broadband is costing £6 a month which i'm happy with.

They are after upgrading all exchanges and it was only the other day that a letter came through explaining when their broadband product becomes available i'd be automatically switched over. That's fine by me.
