Hmm new radiator time

Cleaning the Panda today and noticed the TVR has wet itself in the past 2 weeks since last being used. Pipes/connections feel dry, coolant is collecting above and dribbling out of the little drain hole underneath. Nearly 6 years, probably time for a radiator recore (never been done before).

Might be the washer on the drain plug, they perrish but cost pennies to replace ex cost of the rad re-fill. Pressure test will show where its leaking from. IIRC the old style rads with the plastic cans are not easy to repair.

Thanks. I'll take it up to Str8 Six sometime soon and they can work out what needs doing. I'll go for a recore if needed and if possible rather than a new ally one - silly money. This one lasted nearly 6 years and lots of hard driving, about the same as the rad on my old Chimaera.

Hi Targ ,

I am covinced most rads are changed for the wrong reason.

The ends are plastic, and the outlets go oval due heat I guess.

Then the hose clips leak, I just repalced with hose bands with bolts and now ok.

Stainless ones will keep the front end from going light!
And just don't look right to me.

Thanks Graham. It feels dry around my hose joints and I can't get access to see much as my radiator is one of the flatter versions. I will get the garage to look at this first though.

Took me ages to check it was not the rad but the clips, but now use a piece of kitchen roll paper to probe around the joints after a run.

I think your rad is same as mine so the sides/ ends are swaged to the core.

I have looked into an putting in an extra row for enhanced cooling, which is possible, but not using the current rad.

Just an update on this one. Seems to have been a loose jubilee clip. No puddles appearing now.
