How intelligent is the Chim ECU? Will it recognise higher octane fuel such as optimax and adjust or should it be reset.

I ask as I saw a significant improvement in performance after my Chim was serviced and the ECU reset.

I was told at a TVR dealer, that if your car has gone flat (or disconected) or had ANY mechanical/electrical fault with the engine, the ECU goes into a fault/safe mode, and will run in that mode until it is reset, don't know wether you've had any of this in the past, and that is maybe why your now experiencing better performance?

By "resetting", do you mean just disconnecting the thing for a few minutes or is there some active method of achieving this (ie operating the immobiliser 17 times on a night with a full moon, after a supper of manx kippers, whilst wearing purple flippers and a cod-piece)?

Perhaps there ought to be a filter on this site to remove any postings after 10pm or 8 beers.

Chaps

I would also like to know how to reset my ECU, as my battery often goes flat after periods of non use.

Does the "safe mode" actualy have that much effect ?

Yes. Too reset, disconect batt. leave for 30 seconds, connect batt. start car without touching throttle, leave to idle without touching throttle, then when cooling fans cut in, give it two or three full throttle bursts. It is now reset.

When Steve Howard (Thames Valley Racetech) reset my ECU he just unplugged the bugger when the engine was off, waited a few minutes, plugged it back in, then started the engine up and let it idle for a while.
