Sorry if this has been posted before..

I would like to unlock my Sony Ericsson C905 I have on Orange. I've done a couple of online searches, and seem to come up with a lot of sites that are keep to relieve me of around £4.00 - £6.00 plus vat for an 'unlock report' - this sounds a little iffy to me, and I'm unsure if I buy this, it'll give me what I need to unlock it myself.

Has anyone done this before on an online basis, with any success? Would anyone be able to suggest a method of unlocking it? I'd love to be able to pop along to my local market, but I simply don't have the time.

If you are out of contract I think Orange will unlock it for you.

I will be out of contract in a few months. If Orange will unlock the phone, I doubt they would do it, as you say, until my contract is up.

I'm probably going with another network this time, and would like to switch early if possible. I want to keep it as a spare phone, with a PAYG sim from the new network.

I doubt Orange will give you either an unlatching code, or a PAC code while you are in contract. If you want to switch early, you'll have to buy yourself out of the contract. So, you wait a while and use what you've paid for, then wander down to the market, and get them to unlatch it for a fiver or so, or you pay Orange the remainder of your contract, suck up the loss of the minutes etc, and then pay them the £20 fee. Up to you...

Thanks for the pointers, but I'm happy with my intention with my existing contract, as I'll just run it through to the finish & if I have a couple of months when I'm paying two networks, then so be it - I only have a low end monthly payment with Orange.

My main focus is some advice ref unlocking my handset, and if these online 'unlockers' are worth using.

I used a website to unlock a blackberry - paid £20 IIRC and they sent me a code and it worked. Can't recall which site it was I just Googled and took pot luck. nuts

(It was out of contract - the wife was given it by a relative. She tried it, didn't like it and gave it back rolleyes I could have gone to the vodafone shop but that's much more effort than sitting on the sofa with a laptop tongue out.)

the unlock code can usually be generated for free online if it's not a really new phone ,you will have to trawl several sites to find a free one but they are out there. Orange will charge £20 or your local high street indy phone shop should do it for around £10

quick google revealed this , not all you need but points you in the right direction
