Hi all,
It's been ages since I've posted a problem on here, thats not to say I haven't had any because I've had plenty.
I wonder if anyone out there can offer some advice regarding my CD cartridge in the glove box.
I think it's the standard issue for my 03 RR Vogue 4.4, and just lately it has stopped playing the discs. When I try to play a disc from the screen on the dash the 6 displays all say "no disc" although I can hear the cartridge in the glove box trying to work.
I have inserted a disc cleaner, but it wont play that either.
I can eject the cartridge with no probs. I had to disconnected the battery this weekend for a few mins, but this hasn't reset it.
I hope it's not a replacement, anyone out there help please!

Hi, i have had the same problem with my 03 Range rover, went in to the local garage to have the suspension repaired and came out reading "no disk" on all 6 trays, have you any info to help me as well, i am just banging my head at the moment. It did go on the diagnostic test book to have the fault codes removed and it does have the Mk4 dvd sat/nav unit in it as an upgrade, anyway please reply if you can.

Range Rover cd/dvd players do not 'like' copied discs - told to me by a factory trained technician

they will be ok for a while but will eventually stop working and need a full 'rebuild' etc

The autochangers are repairable. Very often cheaply if not exchange at half the price of new

nothing is ever cheap with a range rover!

i suppose you could remove it from the car and get an independent to do the work?

B.S.

In the early cars it's all standard BMW in car entertainment. Fixes on the cd changer won't cost too much at all.

It bugs me when people constantly go on about how much everything costs on a Range Rover. You'll always get people who spend a lot on their car, somebody else with the same car will pay much less.

I know I run my Range Rover supercharged for less than many people will run their Mondeo! And no, I'm not a mechanic, and no I don't neglect it. It's absolutely pristine.

P.S. If I recall correctly you had a bad experience with your RR GC? I'm just making the point that your experience doesn't make every RR expensive!

if you use main dealers then its always expensive - there are not many good independents esp in the north - one i tried could not even see the car for 10 days and then it would need to be booked in at a later date for the work

so is this cheap?

a) replace NSR lower hub bush
b) replace upper and lower OSR hub bushes
c) replace OSF anti roll bar link

£544.98 - (parts cost £112.15 ex VAT)

and the 'problem' for which the car went into the dealers is still there!!

granted if you are mechanically minded you could do this work yourself - i'm not and am disabled so crawling under a car is not possible

and yes, i can afford these charges - but it does not mean i like them or think them right!

can i also refer you to your reply to a guy whose transmission 'broke'?

'its quite common ... just take it to an auto transmission specialist and get rebuild - should cost around £2K'

and thats from an independent/rebuild - not main dealer - and remember the thread on FF with the guys 'new' box?

They are a bit of a bugger to take out.
You need to remove:
  • air vent
  • Cup holder
  • side trim
  • a post trim
  • glove box door
  • Innner glove box
  • few more trim pannels
Not difficult if you are patient, but when you get to it it looks like you have taken half your dash apart.
I took mine out and replaced it with an Intravee (not sure of spelling) which means I can plug my iphone into the stereo.
Cds are so last decade plus a bit more glovebox room.

thanks - very helpful

its always struck me that the RR 'head unit' should have a single cd slot!

you buy a cd and on the way home want a quick 'listen' - you don't want to be 'faffing about' loading the cd magazine

again - sorry to hark back but a 2001 grand cherokee has that option in addition to the 10 cd system in the boot!
