Hi Ian,

I recently bought a T350T and have done all the research for this, as I wanted to touch up a few minor nose cone chips. Initially, I was told my colour was Reflex Purple, but upon checking the colour code (on engine VIN plate) against the TVR colour WIKI on PH, I found that it was actually Reflex Green - PPG 022. It would be worth checking your exact colour / code as there are several 'types' of each colour and the distinction between one colour and another in the Reflex paints can be quite confusing to the eye!

I intially contacted CHIP EX (www.chipex.co.uk) as I had seen their 3-stage repair kit advert in the TVRCC Sprint Magazine. I spoke to Johnny GRAHAM (07540 875 945)- johnny@chipex.co.uk, who was brilliant in trying to find a solution. However, due to the special nature of the colour the end result was:

'The Reflex Green colour that you have requested is actually a Chromaflare colour which sadly we cannot match due to the special tinting qualities within this type of paint'.

I then contacted Andrew (01253 595 800) at Surface & Design (TVR Paint Specialists up in Blackpool) - info@surfaceanddesign.com, who was excellent and came up trumps:

'We can supply you with a small touch up that is suitable for stone chip repair, the cost is £30.42 (inc VAT and P&P) for reflex green. You are quite fortunate as we only have a very small amount of this in stock and minimum order is half a litre which would have been very expensive'.

The bad news for you, is that I had the last touch up tube in stock (and probably for quite some time before any more) and that half a litre costs around £275.00 and is specially imported from the USA - I'm genuinely sorry! I also enquired how much a nose-cone re-spray would be in Reflex Green and as a very rough planning figure, paint and labour, comes to approx £2,000.00 + VAT.

To try and improve the lot for other Reflex Green TVR owners, I provided CHIP EX with a sample of RG to see if they could at least match the 'base' colour on their spectrometer, which would allow a decent option for people wanting a touch up kit for just the odd chip, without the expense of a full-respray or buying a large amount of RG if S&D RG touch-up tubes really become a rarity. Unfortunately, the spectrometer just couldn't pick up a suitable reading for a match and CHIP EX can not offer a viable alternative.

If you are near the Bristol / Bath region, I would be more than happy for you to drop by and use some of my RG if you have some minor work that needs to be done. Drop me a PM if you want any other info. Other than that, Surface & Design are the only people that I found in the UK who have our colour, give them a buzz and see what the options are.

Best of Luck,

Grant

I think Surface and Design are ex-TVR factory, hence the knowledge of the special colours. You could find where this stuff comes from in the US?

When I had my nose job (Red Glow pearl, TVR only colour), the garage did the base coat in a similar, but cheaper colour (a Rover or Volvo red I think), then the top coat in Red Glow, meaning less paint was used.

Many thanks for the reply Grant, You were quite right Surface and design are out of stock at the moment! Sounds like you were lucky getting the last one... Think I will just have to wait till S+D get some more in stock, Many thanks for your kind offer which I may well take you up on if I were a little closer to you.

All the best Ian.

Hi Ian/Grant,

Think I may be able to offer you and other TVR owners a solution to the problem of paint colours!

Whilst everyone knows sourcing these paints is a common problem, there is a solution available.
The Reflex range of paints are now available here in the UK along with most other TVR colours.
They can be supplied in various sizes starting from only 100ml and are also available in 400ml aerosols and touch-up pens.

These speciality paints are manufactured by International Colours and are available from their online store at: http://www.mbscustompaints.com/tvr-car-paint-c-56....

Hope this helps!

Rick.
