Cleaning and polishing aluminium - any tips?

As above really, my old man has a Lotus 7 with the all aluminium bodywork which he wants to polish up to get it looking mint.

The tub of my racecar could also do with a good clean and polish before the new season. Any hints or tips on the best methods and products to use?

At the minute I'm only aware of AutoSol and elbow grease. Alternatively is there anywhere in the North West that I could take these for someone to do it for me?

I did my seven's bonnet once... never again. Looked great for a short while but I then started wishing for a respray... local metalworkers may professionally polish it for you?
