before i order some parts..
Discussion
i thought i would see if any other PHers have had a similar problem with their central locking. I posted recently in relation to the problem with a view to buying a new solanoid but want to check thats what the problem is first.
The central locking on the passenger side does not respond to the key fob blipper. It was working fine until recently and now packed up. However, if i lift the carpet on the passenger side, give the plunger a wiggle up and down a few times, hey presto, it locks. Before I order a new solanoid, anyoe here have the same probs?

Hello Schnozz,
I guess your problem is either: solonoid had it, connection problem or stiff mechanism.
Don't suppose it's anything to do with your 'leaking post?'.
You could try disconnecting the solonoid from the lock to establish whether it's having trouble overcoming a sticky mechanism. Other than that can't help.
Either new solonoid or maybe leave the passenger at home.
Good luck
David

This is IMO a classic symptom of solenoid failure. I have had two fail and on both occasions I could get them working again by manually operating them a few times.
thats what i wanted to hear - thanks for that
Just couldnt figure out why they get lazy before failing, but now that is confirmed i can source a new one. Many thanks
Haven't had this go wrong (yet) so I'm speculating ... but what is actually going wrong with these solenoids? It's such a simple device it's hard to see what goes wrong. Assuming the electromagnet bit is a single winding, then it either works or it doesn't. Other than that I can imagine the actuator rod might corrode and get stuck. Can it be removed and cleaned?
