I've just been chatting to a few colleagues about interview questions as the comapny I work for are recruiting; our personel manager (!) reckons that we have to, by law, ask at the interviewees the same questions. Needless to say I'm arguing we don't. I can't find anything about it being a legal requirement on google, so I'm throwing it out to the ph massive!

Cheers, GR

There is no legal requirement to ask the same questions but consistency is a good practice and can help avoid any arguments later on about race/sex/age etc.

I'm not sure about the legal side but I try and have a structure of about 10 preliminary questions that is the same for everyone, each of which attempts to analyse how skilful a candidate is in an specific area required by the job. Depending on the answers to these I'll drill down in different ways. We try and score candidates based on these answers.

It makes it easier to compare candidates and not be swayed by the candidate in the nice suit who presents himself well but doesn't know anything and if anyone did say we had discriminated against them it would be a lot easier to point to the questions and scores we gave them to prove we hadn't.

Cheers for that, I tend to ask the same questions or similar to each interviewee but phrase the questions to suit. Where as our personel mang. was insistant we ask exactly the same questions to each interviewee.
