I was watching the fivesix nations this weekend and noticed that almost none of the scrum put-ins and lineouts were straight - if I, an uninformed viewer, have spotted this - why hasn't it been picked up on by the officials and it clamped down on?

scrums are becoming a bit pointless to the game. Constantly disrupted hardly every contested properly. One side trying to cheat more than another. England Wales, players were not binding, going in at an angle etc etc. Slows the game down and therefore spoils it. The ball is never put in 'straight" the last time I think I saw one it came right out the other side, attacking hooker missed it and his opposing number wasn't trying to get it!

Throws are generally straight though IMO?

Ball in hand running rugby and constested breakdowns that what we need.

I *think* that the requirement to put in straight was removed. Same with lifting - that's now permitted.

The number of scrums where the front row seemed to "pop" up or go down seemed a tad excessive too - I was always taught at school that the ball goes in straight and both hookers went for it - as you say, you now never see the opposing hooker even trying.

Running games like how the Barbarians play is what we need - Penalising intentional "straight to touch" kicks should be done too...

I thought lifting was outlawed - but "assisted" jumps were/are tolerated...

You can lift a player, IRB Law 19.10 pertains to the above

d) Lifting and supporting. Players may assist a team-mate in jumping for the ball by lifting
and supporting that player providing that the lifting and/or supporting players do not support
the jumping team-mate below the shorts from behind or below the thighs from the front.
Sanction: Free Kick on the 15-metre line
(e) Pre-gripping is permitted. Players who are going to lift or support a team-mate jumping
for the ball may pre-grip that team-mate providing they do not pre-grip below the shorts
from behind and below the thighs from the front.
Sanction: Free Kick on the 15-metre line
(f) Jumping, supporting or lifting before the ball is thrown. A player must not jump or be
lifted or supported before the ball has left the hands
