one of my employees is planning a career change to HGV driving. So far its cost him many hundreds to get trained. He reckons that he can earn £12 per hour but the agencies that I have looked at offer minimum wage for 7.5 ton multidrop and a quid more for class 1. And they all seem to ask for minimum 12 months experience.
Dads been doing it all his life. I reckon he earns around 32k. He goes out sunday evening and comes home friday morning. Ie. 5 night shifts, parks where he finishes, and has to entertain himself for that day whereever he is.
Personally I think it would get very boring and would drive me crazy being out all week but he enjoys it.

Smae here only I go out 4am Monday morning and don't get home until 12 or 1pm X 5days a week. Similar money but jobs are scarce at the moment plus if you are just starting out you also need the CPC from the outset which is another 35 hours training.Personally I think it would get very boring and would drive me crazy being out all week but he enjoys it.
Watched some cop programe last night about the crack down on HGV drivers messing with the Tacho's so that they could pretend they were on a rest period when actually driving (something about taking out a fuse) and they said the cost to go from a car driver to licensed HGV driver was 2k
