Dension Gateway to L322? Anyone done it?

I've just entered the 21st Century and bought an iPhone 3GS. I want to fit it to my 2003 L322 using a Dension Gateway but I've just spoken to an ICE specialist who tells me Dension have an exclusive agreement with LR and they can only be fitted there at £100 ish per hour.
Given that the car has the BMW stereo (not the satnav version) which looks very similar to the one in my old 325Ci, do BMW compatible Gateways work?

It allows you to hook up your iPhone/iPod to your stereo and use the steering wheel switches to control it. It may not be possible though.
