I deleted 9 months worth of junk emails about 7000 in total after christmas and now outlook is running slower than ever. Can anybody recommend anything?

No, got to FILE menu and then select DATA MANAGEMENT. From there you can compact your .pst files (email folders).

Thanks for the help, but I don't understand, peahaps I should explain this in car terms as this is a car forum.

Had car from new and all had been fine, untill I decided to go to the tip and empty all the rubbish out of the glove box, boot, door bins etc, now car is running slower. Why is this?

In MS Outlook click on FILE on the main tab and then click on DATA FILE MANAGEMENT from the list. You should then get a list of files that contain your emails (inbox/outbox etc). If you double click on one of these file names a window will appear with option to COMPACT NOW. Click on this and the compaction process will start. It might take a few mins if the file is large and hasn't been compacted before. When it's finished, click OK and then double click on the next file and click COMPACT NOW. Do this until all the files have been COMPACTed.
