My brother and I are going to a funeral in Ashford (Middx) this week and he's suggested going for a beer and lunch afterwards, problem is we are both at a loss to think of anywhere in the Ashford, Feltham, Staines area - it's all a bit of a desert round there isn't it? Any suggestions for a good pub/restaurant in that area? smile

Old windsor isn't far... some Italian at punto's for lunch?

Failing that any of the pubs along the A30 or the barley mow in englefield green.

Used to go to the five bells a lot when I worked over that way and it was ok...

The Ostrich in Colnbrook is very good. Decent food, nice pub and some interesting history to read. A trip upstairs to the loo is fascinating too because it's a very old building. smile

The Bells, Church Road, Staines is one of the few nice pubs left round there

If you like Thai food, the Ash Tree on Convent road in Ashford is well worth going to. The old public bar side is now a Thai restaurant. They also pull a decent pint of London Pride from the pub side. You can eat in either the restaurant or pub side.

If you want more trditional English food, The Swan just on the Thorpe side of Staines Bridge is worth a visit. Best bet is to park in the old Courage building carpark just over the river on the Staines town centre side and walk over the bridge to the pub.

The Anglers Retreat on Staines Road in Laleham is pretty good too.

What's that like now? Used to be full of people just itching for a fight.

Really? Never witnessed that myself but only ever used to use it at lunch times.
Possibly best to strike this from the list then?

I would strike it. It always looks so nice and promises so much, but unless it's changed in the last couple of years it's a bit of a dive inside.
