I did my usual weekly update of Ubuntu, and have now lost my volume, wifi and battery icons from the top panel. They're also not in the 'right click', 'add to panel...' option list.

Any idea how to get them back?

Something like this happened to me. It was so long ago I can't remember what. Since then I've switched off everything except security updates. Rock steady ever since.

I'm on Hardy Heron at the mo, so it's supported till April next year. Will have plenty of time for the next LTS version (Lynx) to stabilise before I upgrade.

But in answer to your question, um, not a clue. Sorry.

This sounds very similar to what I did. I took the top line of my screen. This line held the Applications, Places, System and the volume, log out / shutdown buttons.

I thought at the time that what I had done is to remove one of the evolution mail packages that was linked to this section.

I still had the .iso file I had installed so I just re installed and it all came back to life for me. I am on 9.04 (jaunty?)

In the same update I lose the ability to suspend/hibernate. Bit gash.

Have you tried right click on the toolbar and 'add to panel' to re-add the missing things? Wireless is network manager, and battery is gnome power manager
