Just wondered if anyone out there has any experience of the pre sales job market at the moment?

I'm currently employed at a software vendor in a job that is 'safe' but have been told of potential redundancies this year.

What's it like out there? Is it worth me looking or hanging on in there? Any pre sales consultants / sales managers / pre sales recruiters out there?

Thanks in advance.

Its hard work, but assuming you know how to sell and how to build relationships over the phone with the recruiters you stand a better chance than most. Unfortunately there are a lot of older unemployed experienced guys who are effectively over qualified but know their industry and are basically taking a pay cut by going for these jobs. So the competition is fierce.

I've now opted out of internal sales completely and just going for stuff that uses other skills I developed in my last role. But thats just me, I was never an external sales person that often and a lot of these companies aren't interested in employing me for a field sales role, with my lack of field sales experience.

I guess it depends on what you're experienced in, we have a lot of clients looking for ERP pre-sales and consultantants with relevant software experience; Dynamics, SAP, Oracle etc. There does seem to be a real shortage of these currently.
