I've recently replaced my office PC with a MacBook pro. The problem i'm having is a very slow internet response compared to my old PC. The wireless network hasn't changed so why so slow?

I'm not computer savy as yet but shouldn't a new MacBook run faster than an 8 year old Dell PC???

Thanks

P

I'm assuming you're using Safari? Try downloading Firefox and see if that helps.

Doesn't sound right. They're very fast. When you say slow internet response, do you mean it's slow to recognise you have clicked on a link, or slow to actually download web pages and files?

Unless you're using a program to sync all your Firefox history, cookies etc between your Mac and your PC... smile

The Firefox thing was a suggestion for testing more than anything. wink

Both,

Just submitting this post will take some some considerable amount of time,

Is it new?

If not it could be the airport card. The web is full of people having problems after 2/3 years. Mine got to the point when it would only work within 5 ft of the router.

Now sorted with a USB wireless thingy, £20 on eBay.

Try connecting to the router with a ethernet cable and see if there is any difference.

Is it a new Macbook Pro? Have you checked whether all the updates have been done? Sorry if you know this, but go to the Apple menu then click Software Update.

Is there any way you can use a network cable and test whether it is any quicker that way?

Apparently i've got the latest unibody white macbook not the pro.

Following some advice I have powered down my internet router and network router. After re-booting everything is fast smile

Aha! Turn it off and turn it on again - it's a cliche but always worth trying hehe
