Each time I open Outlook, I normally receive my messages with no problem. However, I also get a message at the bottom of the screen "send/receive error: click here".

The message I get then reads as follows:

! Task 'pop3-Receiving reported error' (0x80040900): The server name you entered cannot be found on the network (it might be down temporarily). Verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.

As I have received other messages correctly at the same time, I cannot understand this. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Sounds like a transient problem, reboot and give it a while before panicking. Basically your ISP's mail server isn't available at this moment in time.
