What's the odds that USF1 and Campos miss the championship altogether?
This is one of the things I don't get with USF1, the idea was coined even before the 2009 cars had been unveiled, which should have given them more time to prepare than the others. And yet they are the ones who seem to be the least prepared of any team. When most of the other new teams had signed their drivers and were hard at work with their new cars, usf1 launched a youtube channel, moved into their factory and had a pop at the other teams for "being lazy" and taking 2 weeks off at christmas. And then signed a driver who will probably struggle to get anywhere near 24th place. Surely they could have picked a better driver with a better budget? It looks like they're picking almost American moneybags drivers with little or no talent, you'd have thought if they needed someone almost American, Villeneuve would be high on the list. He made his plans to return public, and although after his title win his talent went out the window, he surely has the kind of budget usf1 would require?
And as for a second driver, Danica Patrick? Although Bourdais proved that Indy/Champ car winners don't necessarily do well in F1, she's pretty handy behind the wheel, would generate a lot of publicity (American driver, and first woman in quite a long time), and would give us a good looking alternative to having to gawp at Schumacher's chin.

On the face of it they should have found it easier than the others to raise the money.
This is the part that I just cant understand. Maybe our european bias towards F1 makes it seem more attractive to US sponsors than it really is.

If you cant raise he money quickly then you are going to struggle with everything else.
I guess this is why Virgin are in the best position so far. Branson might not know anything about F1 but he has been able to put the budget and sponsors together and get the car designed and built. If you can get people to pay for a crazy spaceship then an F1 team should be easy

Hmm, what about Stefan GP's chances of getting to the grid then? According to autosport it hasn't stopped them from preparing for this season, despite also not having a grid slot:

What? You think Villeneuve would have brought a multi-million budget into a team?? It's the exact opposite - he would have wanted to be paid millions!And as for a second driver, Danica Patrick?
