Anybody wear them?

How long does it take to "Learn It" so to speak.

I spent one hour getting my first pair in yesterday at the optician's as I have a strong blink reaction*. Today I got them in in 20 minutes. First 15 spent getting annoyed and then a cigarette and then got them in after 5 minutes with some assistance.

Is there anyone here who just cannot wear them?

After close on 30yrs of wearing them, I can honestly say I just chuck them in each morning in the blink of an eye!

Really doesn't take long to get used to putting them in. You get a technique that works for you and then you are away. I couldn't do it the way opticians seem to show people however.

Really depends on what type they are. I have rigid gas permeable and it took a little while to get used to them. When I first had them in my eyes were watering for about an hour. I then tried soft lenses and they were great. However, for the past 18 years I've been using the gas permeable because they last longer and work out cheaper.

You are a big girl.

Isn't it like seeing a whole new world though? I remember the first time I wore contacts I couldn't help but stare at trees and smile. The leaves were clear and distinct for the first time. Maybe my spectacles prescription wasn't as good as it should've been but the difference was marked.
Never looked back. biggrin

Indeed

I went and stood out the garden and was just looking around.

I am just dreading this evening taking them out. I have another appointment on sunday to see how things are going.

I was useless with them when I first started. Maybe took a week or so to get really good and comfortable with my own technique.

Even after a couple of years though, I get the occasional bad day when a lens just irritates, even a brand new one.

It takes about a week to get it down to a fine art, then another month so you can do it without a mirror confidently!

Best of luck!

Being able to see out of the corner of your eyes when driving is fabulous!!!

Every lens manufacturer tend to have their own specific optical design for these, varifocals are usually known as multifocal in contact lens world.
Really does depend on how you feel with certain brands, good idea to see an optician about fitting these as presbyopic sufferers don't react well to all brands of these.
Also depends on if you want a weekly or daily or monthly as to what's available, Silicon Hydrogels soft lenses are preferable if you can find them.

Stick with it. It's areal pain to get them in and out for first few weeks, but you'll gradually get used to it. It just feels wrong to be poking your fingers in your eyes!

It took me a while to learn it, at first I was told to put them in with my eye looking away to the right as I put in the contact, it didn't work very well for me.

I then started to look right at my finger as I put the contact in and that worked a trear, for some reason it stopped me blinking, possibly something to do with being able to better determine the distance from my eye and not worrying about poking myself.

Been using them for over 4 years now without any problems. I think you just have to take a while to find a method that suits you.

Took me a couple of weeks to get used to putting them in/taking them out. You have to unlearn the blink reflex whilst jabbing yourself in the eye.

Now it's second nature, can do it without a mirror.

Started with monthlies about 16 years ago, now had dailies for years. I remember it taking a few days to get to grips with the feeling of wearing them, but now as others say I don't think about it at all - can put them in and take them out with one hand.
Most important thing is to make sure you keep the lenses clean and keep your hands clean when handling them - nothing worse than a bit of fluff between the lens and your eye.

Arggghhhh done that...although using the 2 solution cleaner once & forgetting to use the neutraliser comes pretty damn close....

when you put them in concentrate on the end of your finger, think about the end of your finger, take note of the details on it, the finger prints, the lumps and bumps etc

they should go in easier as you are not thinking about pocking yourself in the eye but just having a really good look at your finger.

I hope that helps.
