Odd problem with the Lights in my bedroom.

Hello chaps, quick question for the electrical experts on here. I have alittle problem with the bedroom spot lights on the ceiling, i have spotlights pretty much throughout the house but the problem only seems to occur in the bedroom. The lights when turned on via a dimmer switch decide to dim by themselves and sometimes go completely out. Then if i turn the dimmer switch off and back on they come back on but after a short while dim again and again eventually turn off? This doesn't happen everytime though but it is quite frequent to the point i want to get it sorted out.

Any ideas what may be doing this? Something overloaded somehow?

I fitted a new dimmer switch at the weekend which did exactly the same, I found that the box on the wall was not deep enough, the back of the dimmer switch was being slightly crushed against the back of the box, once I slackened the screws off it stopped, if yours does the same install a deeper box.

quick test ,swap the dimmer switch for a standard on/off

If problems gone ,your dimmer switch is knackered

Or if 12/24v it may be that the transformer is on the way out. They are not the most rugged of products and are particularly susceptible to failure due to over heating over time due to poor airflow in the joists/roof space.

When you turn them off the transformer cools down, then you turn them back on and it gets back up "cut out" temperature and out they go again.......
