Xbox 360 - old hard drive onto new console questions

Im picking up a new elite this avo to replace my borked premium, but I cant get hold of a data transfer cable until Sunday, so Im just going to use my old 20gb HD for the time being.

My question is, do I have to recover my gamer tag onto the new console or is it all stored on my old HD?

If you do have to recover it, I guess Ill have to do it again after I transfer everything onto the new 120gb HD?

Should be on the HDD so you'll be fine. My profile is stored on my memory card, so it's nice and easy to take it over to a mate's house.

Plug the old HDD into the new console and it'll be just the same.

did exactly that just last week, this reminds me I need to stump up my tenner to MS for the stupid transfer cable.
