I need to fly to Melbourne, and Eithad and Qatar alines look like the only viable options. Any yay or nay for either flying cattle class?

Thumbs up for Eithad, good food (amazing curry), good seats, newish fleet. Their hub airport wasn't up to much, not as good as Dubai for shopping & food. But that was 5 years ago and I think they were building a new terminal at the time.

Not flown on Qatar, my parents have and would again.

Hope that helps.

my brother WAS going to fly eithad to malaysia - however, they rescheduled the flight to a ridiculous time and it took three months and a few threats to get his money back.

I am going Australia in Decemeber, and Cathy Pacific is cheapest to Cairns

I've only ever heard good things about both airlines.
Personal experience of Qatar is that they are brilliant smile

I don't think I'd ever be able to describe economy as 'brilliant' wink

As a nervous flyer Qatar were excellent. No delays, attentive crew and a shiny fleet. Also very flexible when I needed to change flights last minute.

I know no other type of flying except one sector in BA Premium Economy (which was nice hehe)

Cheers for the replies. We are going Eithad, winning on their schedule. My plan was to go via Singapore, and have a stop over to see friends, but there was 0 available seats on the SIN-MEL leg for a week with anyone! WTF!!!! Even with Singapore, shame, and I wanted to try out an A380, rather than 747's, which are showing their age, and don't seem to be maintained as high these days.

I found out that my dad few with Eithad 6 months ago, and rated them as the best First class he had flown in a long time. Good for him, but we are at the back of the plane!!! Only problem is they run A340 long haul, which are not as fast as Jumbo's, which does make a difference over 14 hours!
