Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Demo Problem

I downloaded the demo the other day and tried to play it, however, after putting in a password to create mt EA account, it comes back with a message saying something along the lines of "your profile settings do not allow you to join Xbox Live".
This is a total mystery to me as I was connected to Xbox live and I can't see any 'profile settings' within the Xbox menus that I can alter to allow me to play it.
I've got this afternoon off work and had penciled in a session on this, so if anyone can help in the next 45 minutes I will be very greatfull.
