Ok, apparently my fuse box will need replacing soon. Dealer has done what they can and rewired quire a bit of it but theres lots of green, corroded terminals due to damp in the past and its terminal. Apparently you cant get the old type fuse boxes any more for 4 ltr griffs and swapping to the new style fuse box is a BIG job so they try to put it off for as long as possible.

Has anyone had this done/done it themselves? Any info?

i was once told that theyre a vauxhall part?dont know how reliable this info is,but i think id go down the scrapyard and start looking for a secondhand one of the same type and just switch them over, one from a car shouldnt be corroded.i say 'just',but even a straight swap wouldnt be a job id relish.i recently had the board out on mine(500),i definately wouldnt want to go down the route of converting to later type, either on my own ,or paying someone!!

The Griff 500 fuse box on my 1996 car is a VW/Audi part.
They are hard to find in breakers so the easiest route is to call Douglas Valley Breakers (do a search for their website) and relieve yourself of around £100!

I saw your car languishing in the corner of the workshop last Saturday mate. Spoke to Richard who confirms they are VW/Audi but need a fair bit of modification doing to get them to work properly. Apparently the originals were done at the factory but no-one can remember exactly what was done and they have no more in stock Would suggest a breakers yard for a direct plug and play option!

Got the car back yesterday. Basically they removed the box, cleaned all the conectors, did a bit of re-wiring and packed it with grease. Seems fine now so hopefully I wont have to change it.

In case anyone needs info on fuse box wiring, someone sent me this link which may prove useful:

Theres also this bit of info on Otter Switches:

Did you see my brother-in-laws 4.2 silver cerb in there? They just discovered its got a crack in the engine block and its only done 38k miles! £3500 for the engine, 24 hours labour (at least) and a few hundred quid for other 'bits and bobs' Could buy a a new small car for what its going to cost.

Blimey! you shouldn't mention that to Richard, he's looking to buy a Cerb soon!

Glad to hear the problems are sorted Jamie. I too saw your Griff in Peninsula last Saturday when I popped in for a couple of small items.

How is everything with the new addition? Our baby is due on Monday so not sure what use I'm going to get from the Griff this year. Luckily the wife loves driving it though and has promised we can keep it

Dont worry about getting a Cerb Rich, I reckon he bought a bit of duff one to be honest. I never thought much of it since he bought it. Although it was from a dealer and had all the stamps, it just looked tired, almost as if it had been thrashed round a track for all of its 30000 miles, or it just hadnt been loved.

Jamie, good luck for Monday (or sooner/later) Louise was a week late!

After that it'll be a week of bed-hospital-shops/bits and pieces-bed-hospital You won't know if you're coming or going.

If I might make a sexist suggestion, go for the breast feeding thing - it saves you getting up in the night. Well at least until they discover those pump thingys . Young Joe didn't get on well with that though so he's a Cow and Gate baby, and slleping through the night since week 6 (bloody lucky there).

Sleepless nights are by far the most demoralising thing ever, and believe me you are not human if you don't (very fleetingly)want to throw the baby out of the window at 3am. Not that you or I ever would, of course. I wouldn't be without him for the world - especially as Louise says we musthave a Cerb!

I'd love to go for cerb and we've looked into it but we're going to wait and see what state the finances are in after the wife has gone back to work part time after 6 months maternity leave.

Have you seen one you like yet?

All of them!

No, want a 4.5 really, but will take the 'right' 4.2. Peninsula are looking for the car as we speak. Colour mileage and condition need to be spot on. In Louise's case colour is most important!

Oh, and your Cerb will never materialise. Your wife will definitely NOT want to go back to work after 6 months, especially if she's like Louise! I'm still trying to work out how I can afford it all.
