Hi All,

Just a post to see if anyone can help me out on a problem.

Recently (last two weeks) my Sat Nav is constantly resetting itself every 5 or so minutes.

I have removed the disc, cleaned it and put it back in. I have also taken out both Sat Nav fuses for a couple of hours in an attempt to reset the system but no joy.

On occassion it just freezes and then switches to default mode with no Nav option.

If I remove the disc then the Trip Computer, Stereo and Phone work no problems...

Thinking I'll have to buy a new nav disc?

I have the same problem. Are you using a genuine SatNav DVD?
I suspect the laser unit in the drive is failing. Very cheap and easy to replace (about £25). I personally have not replaced mine yet but have sourced the part. Just not got round to it.

There are detailed instructions on the net. If you need them, let me know.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I'll be honest no I'm not.

Purchased the last two genuine but got his one on the cheap. It has however been in there for about 3 months will no problems until now.

Am thinking maybe I should buy the new one (via dealer) and see if that makes any difference.

Car is a 2004.

If you send me the instructions it would be much appreciated.

I have a 645 where the nav appears to be working but the car thinks it's 106 miles from where it actually is!! I've driven with the left side of the display showing the map and the right side showing the GPS position and movement is registered on both. I haven't yet checked the GPS position to see where the one shown on the screen actually is, but I just wondered how the system can be reset or recalibrated (have tried battery ooff for hours and igntion on for hours, to no avail).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. smile

I Thought the following would be of interest if you have a Sat Nav problem,
My Mk4 DVD packed up, and I was told by all the UK repair companies that the fault was on the main board (screen went blank when plugged in), they all said that the unit was totally unrepairable.
It seemed to me that the UK companies could only repair disc read errors, by changing the laser, so anything electronic they said just bin it.
Anyway after a lot of searching I found a companie in Germany, who not only replaced the faulty components on the board, they updated the software as well.
They charged me 99 euros +21 euros return carriage, and I used parcel2ship with DHL, and it cost me £16 to get it there,
So for around £116 it was there and back in less than a week.
I was mega impressed,
They seem to repair all sorts of Sat nav problems, and they really know the equipment,
The contact there is Tobias who speaks really good english,
this is the link www.elektronik-idee
I hope this helps someone
