Can anyone reccomend a cheap way to get to calais, I'm not too bothered wether its a seacat, ferry ot tunnel, I've tried various searches on google but seem to get wildly varying prices ! I'm led to believe you can get a return for about £50 but I can't find one, I will be travelling in early august 2010
Cheers.....Tony..

Foot passenger? In the boot of someones car?

Does it have to be "Calais" or just France? Dover to Dunkirk is usuallly cheaper.

They are quite good, but they sail to Dunkirk not Calais.

Can you get "deported"?

Hang around the lorry park at Dover, looking suspicious. When confronted, say that you have just come from Sangatte in the back of a trailer and that you have no documents?

That will get you "deported" to the Public enquiry office in Croydon.

You'll probably get some benefit money though and then you can afford a ferry ticket? scratchchin

You'll need to be travelling at stupid o'clock to get a return under £50 though

P&O, I've just looked and it's £25 each way on certain days in August with 08.30 outbound.

its only a 15 min drive along the motorway, so if a big saving worth doing.

Quieter boats too with not so many screaming kids and chavs. Always use Norfolk Line now, don't know how they can be so much cheaper than P&O.

Another vote for Norfolk Line to Dunkirk as other have said it's only 15 minutes down the road and suited us as we were heading East to Spa.

It's dearer than P&O with less sailings and only one boat (at midnight eek) on the Sunday in July I wanted to return on.

Sailing are every 2 hours AFAIK, and I've never had an issue with availability! You must be picking a very busy weekend!

Same weekend as we go most years, Spa Summer classic, and with P&O I can book a day or to in advance and if I arrive early I will get on an earlier boat if there's one there.
Price quoted is NL £82 for 8am sailing and £52 midnight coming back. P&O for similar times would be £70 and £50-60 return trip although I want late Sunday afternoon at £80 on P&O

Ouch, I got Le Mans for £42 return, which I thought would be a relatively busy time - but I guess a few thousand petrolheads is nothing compared to school holiday masses!

Don't forget that's towing a trailer and even with a motorhome it's the same, just a car is between £25 and £40 each way.
