Well here is my sorry state of affairs any advice how brutal or useful always welcome/expected amongst the PH wink

I have been out of work since November 2008

I can not find anything. Things are getting desperate now... Beating people away from the door stuff.

The only experience I have is in Telesales and Skiing.

However I find it hard to work in a telesale's environment, now my hearing is slowly deteriorating.

Now my two passions are skiing and cars . Id love to be able to work in the ski industry. Even if it was just in a snow and rock shop flogging stuff. At least id be surrounded by like minded people.

I have no mechanical skills but love driving is there anything with my lack of experience in this sector I could actually do? I think id be content doing multi-drop deliveries sorta stuff but how do I get into it.

How do I go about explaing the last 14-15 months with no work?

My only qualifications are 5 A-C GCSE's. Im 25

I REALLY need a job... anything... But I don't even get any responses saying thanks but no thanks.

I really am stuck for ideas who to go to for advice. Job Centre are useless.

Over to you guys please...

P.S im in the Midlands if anyone has any jobs for me wink

FFS! Are you completey stupid for not working out what you want to do yet?

Get yourself out to a ski resort and wash pots, collect glasses, clean chalet toilets or anything that gives you half the day off to ski as much as you like, and gets you a season pass. Then in the summer train to do some instructing/guiding and work yourself up the chalet hierachy to be a host/guide/instructor and you get to shag a better class of chalet girl.

For the summer, you could also learn the basics of hiking/touring/mountain biking/climbing and you will be able to stay in the Alps earning enough to at least doing something outdoors and inspiring.

You won't be earning much money, but you will be at least be working vaguely worthwhile and you will be having the time of your life.

Repeat until you have found a half decent 9-5 job or your balls have dropped off. Start with: http://www.natives.co.uk/ but I'm sure there are plenty of websites to help you.

McDonalds?
Working in Morrisons?

Not trying to be rude, but some income is better than no income, maybe you get to be supervisor after a couple of years then you can start looking for better paid jobs with your "being in charge of staff" background?

if you're in derby you could open a sanctuary for abused sheep who have been shagged by the derby fans...

is dumping the missus an option as i agree with the other chap re working up the chalet hierachy..+ set up your own business first as an instructor then selling ski gear etc etc. sounds more fun than derby mcd's..

If you have a clean driving license, Tesco are always looking out for home shopping van drivers. Ask for the "dot com" manager in the big shops, see what jobs they have coming up. Bit better hourly than tils / shelf stacking / Mcd.

Have you tried local driving agencies? As long as you are over 25 and have less than 6 points you should be fine. It may be a slow start until you are known as a good driver & reliable.

I have been doing it for the past year...

It may be worth going to the local distribution / business parks to ask the wharehouse managers which agencies that they use, that way you can get registered with agencies that actually have work, rather than those ones who just promise future work

Go off and learn how to write and spell properly. You might find that a whole new world opens up for you.

Try the temp' job agencies

I did that when I was made redundant until I found a new job.

The work's st, you get treated like dirt but the money is ok.

There are a world of jobs out there, don't wait for the perfect job to come to you.

Supermarkets, fast food chains... all have vacancies out there and you never know, you might even enjoy doing something different.

That is an awful long time out of work without a sniff of anything. Are you following up each application and with several agencies?

Totally agree with the above. last year when the crap hit the fan and i was put on a 3 day week i signed up to Manpower.

i had some crap jobs but i have to say i had more good days then bad. The main thing is when you are interviewed is say you'll do anything and never let them down or say your too busy when they ring on a Monday afternoon offering work for a Tuesday morning etc.

Obviously this is easier said than done if your signed up to more than one agency but in my experience Manpower always got me work.
Keep a good rapport up with the person that is assigned to you like i did i.e. i sent them e-mails if i didn't get work for a couple of days and they'd always sort me out.

It was a bit more difficult with me as i only had two days a week to fill and sometimes they needed someone for a full week and it would have been unfair to give them 3 days and me 2 days.

What i found is attitude and being punctual is everything and people i met who had this quality and not the lazy work shy a**eholes got pretty much solid work with the odd day off and a lot of pernament people at firms i went to started at agencies and after a while were taken on.

I was amazed at the amount of useless idiots i met who didn't give a flying f**k but like i said stand out and you'll be noticed and get regular work. The only thing is you will get the odd crap day where you'll be treated like crap but at the end of the day smile and get on with it. Its money in your pocket and it will keep you afloat.

Good luck mate and let us know how you go on.

This is damn good advice. I have been self employed from day one (12-13yrs) and have always had work largely because i never turn work down regardless of whether i actually want to work.I have even cancelled holidays to work as at the end of the day you may lose a couple of quid paid for the holiday but you will make that back with ease due to being available and reliable and therefore recalled time and again. I am now in the lucky position to have long term contract work (years of it) and can take time off if i want it but you have to make yourself known as being reliable and in effect "on call" .

Other than that as said call driving agencies and make yourself known, get your cv looked at and spruced up right and when you send it in follow up with a phone call.

What are you actually applying for? It sounds like you are looking for jobs in skiing and telesales, except for skiing and telesales (i.e. nothing). I can't believe there are absolutely no bar, retail, factory, delivery driver, office pleb jobs around. Stop wasting time thinking about your "passions" and get a job. If you've been out of work for 15 months you're not above doing these jobs, and if I was in your position I'd be out all day knocking on doors finding one.

I honestly don't mean to sound harsh, but priority one is money in the bank. When you're secure, if you don't want to be doing crap jobs all your life I would look at getting some training. Simply put, you're not really above a job in McDonalds if you don't have any A Levels - you should expect to start at the bottom. And by the way, McDonalds do look after their staff with regard to training.
